Fabric Description

Bandage Fabric: Slightly ribbed knit fabric with a slight sheen that is dry to the touch. It is not as flexible which allows it to keep its structure.

Bonded Silky Knit: Sturdier than standard silky knit as a FUSING or BACKING has been added to the fabric to solidify it to be more durable and structured. Looks a lot like caress fabric.

Boucle Knit/Boiled Wool (Textured Pompom Knit): Lightweight fabric that characteristically has textured nubs and may or may not also have sequins on it. Although more often associated with cold weather fabric, this is perfectly wearable year-round for cover-ups, sweaters, and dresses.  In the summer it would be used without a backing and in the winter, is would be used with a backing (thinker).

Caress Fabric (Suiting Fabric):Woven fabric that is soft, smooth to the touch and is excellent for year-round wear. This is a perfect fabric for suiting pieces such as Jackets, pants, and skirts because it is a little heavier in nature. However, it does drape and hang beautifully on the body.

Chiffon: A fabric that is sheer, lightweight, and delicate. It is used on garment types such as Dresses, Skirts, and Blouses. Not used in Pants or Jackets.

Flocked Velvet: An embossed velvet design that is superimposes onto a base fabric. This is considered a novelty fabric.

Georgette: This fabric does not have any stretch to it unless Spandex has been added. It is very similar to Chiffon but not transparent.

Micro twill/Techno fabric (Structured & Stretchy): This fabric has a slight sheen that is dry to the touch and is not as flexible, allowing it to keep its structure on garments.  Very dry fabric considered heavier. This fabric keeps its structure.

Milano Knit (Stretchy, Heavy but not too thick): It is a thicker knit that has a slimming tummy effect. Because it is heavier it is typically reserved for colder weather wear. This is a heavier legging/Jogging fabric.

Stretch Taffeta: Same properties as Micro Twill. This fabric has a slight sheen that is dry to the touch and is not as flexible, allowing it to keep its structure on garments.  Very dry fabric considered heavier. This fabric keeps its structure. This is used often used in evening wear.

Silky Knit: Blend of knit fabric that is soft and smooth to the touch with lightweight feel. It is excellent for draping and year-round wear. The fabric is very voluminous and flattering.

Fabric Finishing’s or Embellishments

Cascade:This is a lightweight stretchy fabric that is very forgiving regarding body imperfections. Ridged and wavy fabric that is pliable and perfect for year-round wear in dresses, jackets and skirts.

Iron on Transfers (Heat pressed to the back of fabric. It always lays flat on the garment): Flat, Shiny, metallic, or clear holographic “bling” that is heat pressed and “glued” into place on the fabric. Not an “add-on” to fabric but it is as if it were part of the fabric.

Laser cutting: A precision cut design is created using a laser, in or around the garment which is also heat seals the cut so that a seam is not required to keep the fabric from unravelling.

Leatherette (Faux Leather) / Faux Suede: This leather like fabric is smooth, lightweight and is used for Jackets, Pants, Skirts and Trimming. WE do not like to use the term faux leather as it doesn’t sound as glamorous.

Lace: A lightweight and delicate knit fabric, usually created in floral or paisley motif. It can be used as a trimming detail or on a full garment such as a dress, skirt usually as an overlay on a lining.

Marrow Edge Trim: It is a visual decorative finish. A Continuous thread that gives a piping look and wave effect at the bottom of dresses, tops, and skirts. A thinly piped hemline trim, created by multiple overlapping threads on a sewing machine. This is found on chiffon sheer like material.

Mesh: A sheer knit netting fabric that is lightweight, soft, and see-through illusion of coverage. It is used primarily as accentuating parts of garments i.e.: sleeves, necklines and panel insert but also used in garment lining. It is used quite often in trimming or for added details on a garment.

Puckering: A Deliberate gathering of fabric, using elastic threading to create textured patterns on a garment.

Rouching: A deliberate, yet strategic gathering of fabric, used to camouflage certain body parts while accentuating and flattering other areas.

Sequins: Flat, Shiny, metallic, or clear holographic “Bling” that is heat pressed and “Glued” into place on the fabric.
